{"id":328,"date":"2004-08-31T21:19:00","date_gmt":"2004-08-31T21:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mceachernfamily.com\/blog\/2004\/08\/httpwww-mceachernfamily-comblog200408last-saturday-was-splash-and-dash-day-html-tue-31-aug-2004-211900-0500-derek-323-2004-08-31-211900-2004-08.html"},"modified":"2004-08-31T21:19:00","modified_gmt":"2004-08-31T21:19:00","slug":"httpwww-mceachernfamily-comblog200408last-saturday-was-splash-and-dash-day-html-tue-31-aug-2004-211900-0500-derek-323-2004-08-31-211900-2004-08","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mceachernfamily.com\/blog\/2004\/08\/httpwww-mceachernfamily-comblog200408last-saturday-was-splash-and-dash-day-html-tue-31-aug-2004-211900-0500-derek-323-2004-08-31-211900-2004-08.html","title":{"rendered":"<link>http:\/\/www.mceachernfamily.com\/blog\/2004\/08\/last-saturday-was-splash-and-dash-day.html<\/link>\n      <pubDate>Tue, 31 Aug 2004 21:19:00 -0500<\/pubDate>\n      <dc:creator>Derek<\/dc:creator>\n      <guid isPermaLink=\"false\" \/>\n      <description \/>\n      <wp:post_id>323<\/wp:post_id>\n      <wp:post_date>2004-08-31 21:19:00<\/wp:post_date>\n      <wp:post_date_gmt>2004-08-31 21:19:00<\/wp:post_date_gmt>\n      <wp:comment_status>open<\/wp:comment_status>\n      <wp:ping_status>open<\/wp:ping_status>\n      <wp:post_name \/>\n      <wp:status>publish<\/wp:status>\n      <wp:post_parent>0<\/wp:post_parent>\n      <wp:menu_order>0<\/wp:menu_order>\n      <wp:post_type>post<\/wp:post_type>\n      <wp:post_password \/>\n      <content:encoded><![CDATA[ <head> <meta content=\"text\/html;charset=utf-8\" http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" \/> <title>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><head> <meta content=\"text\/html;charset=utf-8\" http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" \/> <title><\/title> <\/head> <body bgcolor=\"#ffffff\" text=\"#000000\"> Last Saturday was &#8220;Splash and Dash&#8221; day where I was signed up to do a 2 mile swim-10k run.&nbsp; The weather had been pretty nice all week but early Saturday morning it turned kind of gross and I woke up to a pretty fierce thunder storm.&nbsp;&nbsp; I decided to head out to the race course any way thinking that if things cleared up they would run the race and eventually that&#8217;s what happened.<\/p>\n<p> The only thing was that the race was scheduled to start at 8:00 and we all had to be there for 7:30 for race prep.&nbsp; After being postponed a number of times things finally got under way at 10:00.&nbsp; The lightening had stopped around nine but the rain didn&#8217;t subside until part way through the swim.&nbsp; In addition to being delayed the race organizers decided that the lake was still too choppy to let us out in the open water area so the 2 mile swim course was shortened to 1000 in the sheltered area.&nbsp; In fact everyone&#8217;s swim was shortened to 1000 even if you signed up for the 1 mile or 2 mile swim portion.&nbsp; The only difference between the groups was how far you run after the swim.<\/p>\n<p> I was pretty pleased with the way it turned out.&nbsp; I was fifth overall for the people doing 1000 swim 10k run and I managed to complete the 10k in just over 49 minutes which is a pretty good time for me.<\/p>\n<p> Jen and Alex were troopers considering they were out there with me the whole time.<\/p>\n<p> Now for the sushi experience&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s much of a secret that I&#8217;m not a big sushi fan.&nbsp; Can&#8217;t say that I&#8217;ve really tried it but the whole concept of eating raw fish just doesn&#8217;t appeal to me.&nbsp; I don&#8217;t eat raw beef so why would I eat raw fish?&nbsp; I just don&#8217;t understand it.<\/p>\n<p> Anyway, Saturday night we went out with Kelly, Wade, and John, (Wade&#8217;s cousin) to a fancy schmancy restaurant&nbsp; downtown.&nbsp; They have this thing going on called Restaurant Week were each week a different restaurant is featured and for $30 you get a three course meal where you get a choice between a couple of items on each course, appetizer, main meal, and dessert.<\/p>\n<p> So I&#8217;m going over the menu and for an appetizer the only thing that sounds good to me is the yellow fin tuna.&nbsp; I didn&#8217;t think anything of until they brought it out.&nbsp; They waiter placed in front of me this very nicely prepared plate with three slices of very raw, very pink, yellow fin tuna.&nbsp; I tired to brush it off as if it was no big deal and this is exactly what I had in mind when I ordered it to begin with, but honestly, I&#8217;m not that good a liar.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p> I managed to muscle my way through the tuna so now all you nay sayers out there can&#8217;t tell me I don&#8217;t like sushi because I&#8217;ve never tried it.&nbsp; I&#8217;ll admit that it tasked better then I anticipated but I just couldn&#8217;t get over the texture.&nbsp; It&#8217;s raw for crying out loud.
