Emergency!

I was reading a blog the other day and the author was tagged by another blogger with creating a “top 4 things of Los Angles” list. One of the subcatagories was “Four LA-Themed Shows I Love(d) To Watch” and number four on the list was “Emergency!” Ah, the childhood memories came flowing back, this was one of my all time favourite shows when I was a kid.

With just about every show ever created popping up in DVD I tried to find it about a year ago but came up empty. After reading that post I was all inspired to give it another shot and did a quick search on Netflix and….(queue heavonly music) ahhhhhhh (end heavonly music) the first two seasons have been released! I couldn’t contain myself and added all 11 DVDs to my netflix queue.

There is just no denying Emergency!

Ride along as paramedics Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) and John Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and their colleagues from Squad 51 coast through the streets of Los Angeles saving lives. Far from being glamorous, however, their jobs are stressful as they race against the clock, rushing patients to Rampart Hospital and taking action on the spot. But these emergency workers soon learn that humor is the best salve for wounded spirits, if not for injured bodies.

  1. Ya, it was probably before you were old enough to watch TV and I’m not sure you would have liked it anyway. It was on between 1972 and 1977 so even I was pretty young when it was on. It was about the fire fighters at Station 51 in Los Angles, in particular it focused on the paramedics “John Gage” and “Roy DeSoto”.

Every episode would have some type of emergency and rescue scene and then it would shift to the hospital where the doctors and nurses would take over. Each time there was an emergency the fire station horn would blast which to this day I can totally recall. You can read all kinds of good stuff at this fan site:

  2. Yes, I remember it well. You were six, Deanna three, when,in the little blue Volkswagen we were heading for Mississauga from Guelph. I became very ill and pulled over to the shoulder and parked the car. A policman came to my rescue and inquired if all was well. You looked at him and said “YOU NEVER ASKED IF SHE WAS A CAUCASIAN FEMALE” That show had quite an effect on you!
    Love,
    Mum
