I couldn’t call myself a Canadian unless I wrote about the weather every now and again, well on Monday it was 101° (38° C) here. (Dramatic pause while I let sink in.)
It’s only April for crying out loud!
- Monday was a record high temperature, beating the old record of 94° (34° C) set in 1913.
- It broke the record for the hottest ever April temperature.
- It was the third earliest 100° day ever.
The opening paragraph of the story covering the weather in The Dallas Morning News was:
“April’s unexpected warmup sent temperatures surging to 101 degrees Monday in Dallas, rewriting weather records, triggering rolling electric blackouts and offering an early taste of what could be a hot, dry summer even by Texas standards.”
The key here is the last bit of the sentence, “hot, dry summer even by Texas standards.” My first summer in the the city we had 80 consecutive days of over 100° temperatures. The only way to accomplish such a fantastic feat is to never cool down. By eight in the morning it was typically in the 80’s and at night it never dropped below 70. If this keeps up my air conditioning bill is going to put me in the poor house.
